A ML Algorithm for Income Verification Tool

PointPredictive, an AI fraud solution company, has released its newest product, “Income Validation Alert”. It offers a real-time predictive assessment of an applicant’s stated income. In case the stated income appears to be above 15% or more, finance companies are alerted so they can perform additional due-diligence. Income Validation Alert analyzes a borrower’s stated income with millions of reported incomes and salaries from seven sources. It feeds applicant’s employer, occupation, job title, residence and estimated years of experience, into its ML model to predict the borrower’s likely income.

Traffic to Be Managed by AI Soon

Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor & senior government officers have received an approval for using AI to manage traffic. The tender will be soon rolled out wherein, the authorities will seek to deploy around 7000-8000 sensor-based cameras which will feed data into the AI software. Cameras will have multidirectional infrared and colourless laser sensors. This will calculate volume of traffic based on image pattern analysis. Cameras will collect data and used by software through a process called Deep Learning.

AI to Be Used for Suicide Prevention

Federal government of Canada has recently partnered with Ottawa-based AI company, Advanced Symbolics, to screen social media posts for warning signs of suicide amongst the users. It will define “suicide-related behavior” from suicidal thoughts and threats to attempts. It will also conduct market research to identify related patterns of online behavior. A three-month pilot monitoring program will be launched first. It will use public data and won’t identify individuals.

Uber To Patent an AI System to Identify Erratic Behaviour in Riders

Uber, in its latest efforts is trying to use ML to better understand the "state" of its passenger when they request a ride. It wants to analyze how people typically interact with the app and determine if they are behaving in an "unusual manner". Data points like how many typos a person makes, precision of click, and how long it takes to request a ride will help them assess the passenger’s state. Uber’s patent suggest that the app could take a couple of different actions when it notices a rider acting unusually.

Algorithm to Tell Which Number Sequence Human Will Find Interesting

Researcher Chai Wah Wu at IBM’s Watson Research Center has built a ML algorithm that can identify certain types of patterns in mathematical structures and used it to filter interesting sequences from entirely random ones. It uses a database called “Online Encyclopedia of Integer Sequences”. Currently it contains 300,000 sequences, and new ones are submitted every day. Wu’s algorithm finds a way to distinguish these “interesting” sequences from randomly generated ones.

IIIT-H Students to Make ML Algorithm for Sports Video Analysis

Research students of International Institute of Information Technology-Hyderabad (IIIT-H) have proposed an end-to-end framework for automatic attributes-tagging and analysis of sport videos. It will be using techniques like object detection, action recognition and temporal segmentation. The project is supported by Amazon. It has infused funding to masters and doctoral students for their research. The framework will analyze data captured from local sports complexes in a low-cost setting.

AI Powered Smart Solar Batteries to Adjust Power Output Automatically

Azuri Technologies has developed smart solar batteries called “HomeSmart” which uses software with AI to learn each home’s energy needs and adjust power output to accordingly. This allows the battery to keep things running even at night. The tweaks that the battery can conduct autonomously includes dimming lights and TV screens, lowering speaker volume, and slowing a fan’s motor. The algorithm sets internal targets for the usage of energy for a customer overnight and keeps refining those estimates based on usage patterns.

Researchers Develop AI That Can Identify and Count Wildlife

Researchers from universities like Harvard, Oxford & Minnesota have developed a ML algorithm that can identify, describe, and count wildlife. The algorithm was trained on over 3.2 million images, shot from Snapshot Serengeti, a science project on Zooninverse.org. The motion-sensing camera automatically snap photographs. These are fed to convolutional neural network. It then describes the type of species along with their number. It is also able to predict which activities they are most engaged in, like eating or sleeping. It has marked an accuracy level of 96.6%.
